- Beginners Strategies -

Welcome, on your road to greatness. Here you will begin to be tutored and learn a basic beginning for a spellcaster/non-spellcaster. This tutorial will introduce you young newbies to different appraoches and strategies of going about your way to Grandmaster. These are perhaps the best approaches of beginning your journey, though opinions will vary and I recommend you mix and do a bit of each. If you have any questions about what the information in the paranthesis mean, it will most likely be answered in a different part of the tutorial section. Well here we go:

DoD Strategy:

For this strategy, in lamens terms, fight monsters and progress in the Dungeon of Despair till you have reached the desire rank, either Master (560,000 exp.), or as some prefer, Grand Master (50,000,000 exp.). It is recommended you stop using this strategy after you have reached Masters. On my site, you can go to the DoD Walkthrough's section where you can find the information for nearly every part of the DoD. It would help, since you are just beginning, to buy armor/shield for yourself to keep yourself -alive- longer. So, once you have come out of the DoD, you should be strong and well, though most likely nearly broke as well and not have the most up to date equipment.

Why? Some people prefer this apporoach because you are able to level quicker than battling in the arena, and not have to worry about a win/loss record. Also, you are able to pick up some good attacks/spells that could make you stronger or Books of Learning that will strengthen your stats. For example the Book of Anatomy (-1 to hit) or the Book of Firewalking (-1 to save).

Arena Strategy:

For this strategy, you begin by entering the Java Server Arena and upon arrival to start betting on fights immediately before fighting. Caution: When you bet, make sure you are positive the fighter you bet on will win. Refer to the How-To section with questions on betting.Remember: This strategy starts out by -gaining- money, not -losing-. Since you begin with 250 gold, you should only begin to bet around 200 gold, and as you gain gold, raise your bet to 500 gold. If you lose all your gold, you may reset your character so that it restarts with 250 gold. I have learned the maximum net worth (value) of which your character can be is 10,000 gold, so your main goal is to reach for that much so that you will have enough gold to purchase decent weapons/armor attire. Again, weapons and spells will differ depending on what class you are. *Careful not to gain too much gold, preferrably over 10,000 gold as your net worth of your character because you may be deemed unfair to others by a GameOp and be banned*

Spellcasters: You buy armor/shield to protect yourself against the non-spellcasters and use, but still save, your money to buy newer and better spells, this as well depends on your class. Recommonded spells to buy are ones that cast at least 40dmg or over. You can receive spells like this for free in the Druid Ruins 1 and 2 of the Dod like: Druid Psychic Ball (1d40) or Druid Psychic Fist (4d13). This should start you off great with a good record, good statistics, and good spells. Dont worry too much about weapons, just purchase a missile or melee that range in the '1d10' to 1d16' area.

Non-Spellcasters: You buy weapons, armor/shielding if you choose to protect yourself from fellow non-spellcasters. With your gold, you should purachse a melee weapon ranging from '1d14' to 1d20' and for a missile weapon it is preferrable it is between '1d14 to 1d22'. Now that you have quality weapons, you may start fighting. Once attaining the right experience you may buy attacks like Power Slash (1x150%; 6,000exp) or getting Druid Focused Strike (1x250%; Druid Ruins 1), Druid Quick Strike (3x75%; Druid Ruins 1), or Demonic Attack (1x175%; Gildern Mines 2) out of the DoD.

Why? Some people will choose this strategy because you can gain plenty of gold on winning bets, and have the ability to purchase better weapons than when in the DoD. Others will also like this strategy because it is more interactive because you deal with other people online making the game more enjoyable than playing alone in the DoD.

Immediate Newbie Strategy:

This approach is simple. You use the 250 gold you start out with, and buy whatever weapons and spells you can afford, and begin to fight. There is nothing really more to this strategy, but that you fight, hope to win, and gain enough gold to buy what you need.

Why? Most newbies will prefer this strategy without knowing it only because it is the only strategy they will come to know. Once you are more into the game, you will learn what and what not to do when starting your quest.

You have learned three different strategies from this tutorial and may begin using them to your disposal. These were just strategies to help you get -started- as a Novice, and will not help you in Expert, Masters, and especially Grand Masters. So, have fun playing Vagabonds Quest, and I hope you have learned something from this tutorial.
